Cole Winn threw six no-hit innings, Riders win 3-1

Cole Winn threw six no-hit innings and earned the win as the RoughRiders beat Midland RockHounds by a final of 3-1. The crowd of 3,888, not only witnessed Cole’s performance but they saw what every baseball fan dreams about: A fox running on the field, right onto the warning track! After a few minutes, it left to go back into hiding in its natural habitat somewhere outside of Momentum Bank Ballpark.

On the Mound

Winn is having quite the season and with tonight’s performance he earned his first win of the year and now owns an astounding 2.08 earned run average to go along with it! He walked three and struckout six.

Noah Bremer (1.69) replaced Winn in the bottom of 7th inning and pitched three effective innings for his second save this season by allowing one run on three hits with one walk while striking out four batters.

At the plate

Between the line-ups, the RoughRiders definitely owned the night. As a group they managed twelve hits. Their three runs were scored in three consecutive innings in the 4th, 5th and 6th.

Bubba Thompson went 3-4 at the plate with a run and a walk. Dio Arias joined him in the three hit column as he went 3-4 with a run.

Matt Whatley (.238) was the only other Rider with a multi-hit game. He went 2-4 with an RBI. The RoughRiders have a 10-3 record when Whatley has started behind the plate.

Defensively the Riders commited one error on the night. It was a throwing error by shortstop Derwin Barreto.

The Riders continue the series through Sunday. Yerry Rodriguezbijou will make his fourth start for the RoughRiders with the first pitch set for 7 PM.

*Injury news that impact the RoughRiders

  • Shortstop Davis Wendzel (.241) will be out at least six weeks due to a hamate bone injury.
  • Alex Speas has inflammation in his right elbow. He will not throw for four weeks.
