After winning game one on Tuesday, the RoughRiders dropped game two of the series with the Corpus Christi Hooks by a final of 7-5 in front of a crowd of 3,185. The RoughRiders move to 20-15 while the Hooks move to 13-22.
Left-hander Avery Weems made his fifth start of the season. It was perhaps his best start of the season. He pitched five innings allowing two earned runs on six hits, one walk and three strikeouts. He threw a total of 71 pitches – 45 for strikes.
Ezequiel Duran got the RoughRiders on the board in the bottom of the 1st with his RBI single. The Hooks didn’t allow the RoughRiders to enjoy the lead for long though as they added two runs in the top of the 2nd.
Josh Stowers put the RoughRiders in front in the bottom of the 6th with his two-out two RBI single. He also stole 2nd base for his 6th stolen base of the season.
Out of the pen
Kevin Gowdy pitched two innings. The Hooks were able to score a run on a home run. In total he gave up two hits, including the home run and struckout one.
Justin Slaten took the loss for the RoughRiders. He pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and a strikeout.
Fernery Ozuna pitched the final 1.1 innings. The Hooks managed to score three runs, two earned, on two hits and two strikeouts.
No Riders batter had a multi-hit game.
Speed on the bases
The RoughRiders stole four bases as a team, showing that they do indeed have guys that can swipe bases.
The Frisco RoughRiders Rotation looks like this the rest of the series.
- Thu: LHP Cody Bradford (3-2, 9.00)
- Fri: RHP Jack Leiter (1-3, 4.43)
- Sat: LHP Cole Ragans (3-1, 2.79)
- Sun: RHP Justin Slaten (0-1, 4.67)
It remains to be seen if Slaten will make the start as he pitched out of the pen in the game last night. If he does start, he will likely go 2-3 innings.
