former Frisco RoughRiders players who have made their Major League debut.

RoughRiders pitching coach Is Josh Zeid

The Texas Rangers have added former Major League pitcher, Josh Zeid, to their organization as the new pitching coach for the Frisco RoughRiders. Jeff Andrews was the RoughRiders previous pitching coach.

He brings with him a mixture of previous playing experience and coaching experience and knowledge that will be invaluable to the club in the coming season.

The Rangers have to make sure that they hit in the development of top pitching prospects such as Owen White, Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker, Brock Porter among others.

Hiring Zeid, 35, comes as the Rangers try to revamp their pitching development to make sure they start developing home grown pitching. Developing home grown pitching is something the Rangers and their fans are starved for.

Josh Zeid’s Major League playing experience

Zeid pitched for the Houston Astros in 2013 and 2014. His most successful season was 2013 where he had a 3.90 earned run average in 27.2 innings pitched. In 2014, he had a 6.97 earned run average in 20.2 innings.

Zeid pitched in the minor leagues for the Phillies, Astros, Tigers, Mets and Cardinals until 2018. He finished his career with a 45-29 win-loss record with a 4.39 earned run average across 9 seasons in the minors.

Pitching coordinator for Chicago Cubs

In 2019, Zeid was hired by the Cubs rehab pitching coordinator and player development pitching analyst. He ran the Cubs pitch lab in Arizona.

The Texas Rangers reportedly have a pitch lab in their Arizona Complex as well which isn’t surprising as teams put more of an emphasis on analytical data and biomechanics.

Zeid has experience as a player which I believe can translate to players a little better. It’ll be interesting to see how he can help improve upon the RoughRiders pitching numbers throughout 2023.

The Prospect Times would like to congratulate Josh Zeid on being named the Texas Rangers pitching coach for their Double-A affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders!
