The 2023 Arizona Fall League got started on October 2nd so I figured it is about time to give an update on how our Texas Rangers prospects are doing.

The Texas Rangers are just one of five MLB teams prospects that make up the roster of the Surprise Saguaros. The five teams are the Blue Jays, Brewers, Rangers, Reds and Royals.

This article is just going to focus on the Texas Rangers prospects that are playing in the Arizona Fall League.

Mitch Bratt, LHP

One Rangers prospect currently making waves in the Arizona Fall League is left-handed pitcher Mitch Bratt. Bratt, drafted in the 5th round of the 2021 draft is a promising young talent.

At just 20 years old, Bratt demonstrates remarkable poise and composure on the mound.

Bratt has appeared in 2 games pitching a total of 3 innings. It hasn’t quite gone as planned as he’s allowed 7 runs on 6 hits, 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Cameron Cauley, INF

Continuing our analysis of the Texas Rangers prospects in the Arizona Fall League, let’s now shift our focus to Cameron Cauley, an infielder making his mark on the Surprise Suguaros. Cauley, a 20-year-old from Houston, was drafted by the Rangers in the 3rd round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

Through 9 games in the AFL he has a batting line of .091/.211/.152/.362 with 4 walks.

*Update* October 19, 2023

Cam Cauley had an excellent game, going 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. He really stung the balls as well. One had an exit velocity of 109 mph off the bat and the other was 108.

Liam Hicks C/1B

The Texas Rangers drafted Hicks in the 9th round of the 2021 draft. The 25-year-old from Canada spent time with the Hickory Crawdads and Frisco RoughRiders this season. Most of his games were with Frisco.

He is one of the hottest hitters in the AFL as we speak though, he hasn’t hit a long ball just yet, though, he isn’t known for his power. He hit 4 home runs in 92 games.

In the AFL, he is slashing a line of .529/.600/.647/1.247 with 6 RBI and 6 walks.

Zak Kent, RHP

Zak Kent, the talented right-handed pitcher, has made two starts in the Arizona Fall League. He’s got a 1-0 win-loss record with a 3.38 earned run average.

Kent’s season had been hampered by injury but his future looks promising as he continues to refine his pitching mechanics and gain experience at the professional level.

Abimelec Ortiz, 1B/OF

Offensively, Ortiz has shown great potential, with his power at the plate being a standout attribute. Between the Down East Wood Ducks and the Hickory Crawdads, he hit 33 home runs. He led the Rangers entire farm system in that category.

Through six games in the AFL he is slashing .278/.423/.444/.868 with one home run, 6 RBI and 6 walks.

Alejandro Osuna, OF

Continuing with our discussion on the Texas Rangers prospects in the Arizona Fall League, another player is Alejandro Osuna, an outfielder. Osuna, a 21-year-old from Mexico, has shown great potential.

Through 4 games he has slashed a line of .214/.313/.214/.527 with one RBI and one walk.

Emiliano Teodo, RHP

Emiliano Teodo, a right-handed pitcher, has shown great potential in the Arizona Fall League.

Throughout the AFL, Teodo has displayed excellent control, striking out batters with ease while limiting walks.

As Teodo continues to develop as a pitcher, his future outlook in the organization looks promising. With his impressive stuff and strong work ethic, he has the tools to become a key contributor for the Texas Rangers.

He has made 4 appearances so far in the AFL. He’s pitched 6 innings while giving batters a hard time with 12 strike outs. They’ve managed to get one hit and earn one walk against him.

Justin Slaten, RHP

Justin Slaten, a right-handed pitcher drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft. Slaten, 26, development has been promising, as he had a great 2023 season.

Slaten’s future role could be as a high-leverage reliever. With his electric stuff and solid performance in the AFL, Slaten could have a significant impact in the majors in the near future.

Through 3.2 innings pitched, he’s got a 4.91 earned run average, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
