Sit Down Interview With Ronald Guzman And His "Power".
August 22, 2019- Oklahoma City When you see Ronald Guzman smile you can?t help but smile yourself. It?s infectious. Watching him interact with teammates, coaches and fans reminds you of the good in people, even professional athletes. Signed in 2011 as an International Free Agent, Guzman has climbed up through the Rangers Farm System. During my week covering the Nashville Sounds in Oklahoma City my number one goal was to get a sit down with Guzman, not only because he?s got significant major le
Baseball And Racism. Not In Our Game.
What happened at Globe Life Park on August 3, 2019 happens every day all over the world. The problem is, a MLB ballpark is supposed to be a safe haven of such actions. Before I go any further, let me say this article reflects MY views and opinions. If you read this with political views stop reading now and click that X at the top of your screen and move on. This has nothing to do with a wall or taking a knee during the National Anthem. A Hispanic family was enjoying watching the Texas RangersBecause Baseball- Why We Love The Game
Billy Beane: How can you not get romantic about baseball?- Moneyball *Disclaimer- I just got inspired to write this article. It wasn't planned like an interview. I haven't researched stats or information. This is coming from my baseball soul. As I was sitting here Tyler Skaggs popped into my mind. What an incredible moment July 12, 2019 will represent not only for the Los Angeles Angels organization but all of baseball and it's fans. Found dead at his hotel room on July 1, 2019 in Texas, Tyler
The Life Of A Baseball Players Mom....This Is Sharon Barlow, Mother of Texas Rangers Pitching Prospect Joe Barlow
*Update* Joe Barlow was promoted from AA Frisco to AAA Nashville on July 15, 2019. Rewind to last month when I was having some fun with the Frisco Roughriders communications team about following me on Twitter. After some lobbying and fun banter, they accepted. I asked Twitter for followers and tagged Frisco which prompted Sharon Barlow, Mother of Frisco Roughriders Pitcher Joe Barlow to send me this... Yes, Mrs. Barlow, I agree. There's no one better to say good things about Joe than you, hisNashville Sounds Update With Play By Play Man Jeff Hem
How do you bring a baseball game to life when you can't be there in person? You listen to the play by play of said game, and there's not many better with passion for the City of Nashville and baseball than Jeff Hem. I did an interview with Jeff earlier this year, then met him when the Sounds came to Oklahoma City. What I immediately noticed was his willingness to help me out with what I needed from the team. He coordinated all my interviews with players and coaches giving me a proper introducti
Rangers Pitching Prospect Wes Benjamin - AAA Nashville Sounds
Wes Benjamin, better known around the Sounds organization as Day Game Wes because of the amount of day games he pitches, is a true Texas Ranger. Benjamin signed with the Rangers June 15, 2014 and has climbed up the ladder ever since. Day Game Wes has pitched for the Arizona Fall League Rangers, Lower A Hickory, High A Down East, AA Frisco and now in his first year with AAA Nashville. I met Wes while the Sounds were in Oklahoma City for a series with the Dodgers. We sat down the day after he sta
Talking Sounds Baseball With Rangers AAA Hitting Coach Howard Johnson
Talking with Howard Johnson May 8, 2019 I was leaning against the dugout railing scrolling through Twitter-(#freedilly)- when I turned to my left and saw a man standing there. "Hello, Howard Johnson. I heard your the BBQ guy." "Greg Scallan, it's truly an honor to meet you. And yes, I'm the BBQ guy." ~We will talk about BBQ in a future article.~ So let's hold up at this point. Let me remind you I'm not a paid writer. I'm not around pro athletes day in and day out. I'm a fan writer about the
Sitting Down With Rangers Prospect Infielder Eli White From The Sounds
When I spoke with Nashville Sounds Play by Play man Jeff Hem last month about some prospects to keep an eye on there was no hesitation when he said Eli White. So when the Sounds came to Oklahoma City last week I made sure to connect with him. Eli willingly took time out of his preparation for the game that night to sit down for 10 minutes. Eli White came to the Rangers organization through a trade with the Oakland A's last off season that included the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3 team trade. Ask any true sports fan and they will tell you that a play by play announcer is the heartbeat of any event to someone listening. Their job is to put the fan at the game. To bring such a bright light of detail that who ever is listening can follow along and get the same feeling of actually being there. This is especially true for baseball as a lot of people don't follow the game because they find it boring. How can anyone listen to Vin Scully and find baseball boring?? Jeff Hem takes minor leag
Talking to Top 10 Rangers Prospect Julio Pablo Martinez
Many considered the signing of Julio Pablo Martinez on March 6, 2018 a huge get for the Texas Rangers in the International market for prospects. Martinez, standing 5-10 and weighing in at appx. 180 lbs. turned 23 years old on March 1, was promoted from Hickory (Low A) to Down East (High A) on April 17 when Bubba Thompson went on the IL with a hand injury. Martinez is hitting .258 in 83 games so far in his professional minor league career. Obviously the sample size isn't large enough to get a tr
