RoughRiders nearly sweep Rangers minor league awards
The Texas Rangers named their minor league award winners for the Month of June. The RoughRiders have three of the four winners.
The Rangers Minor League award winners for June are:
- Player of the month: OF Kellen Strahm
- Starting Pitcher: RHP Owen White
- Reliever: RHP Yerry Rodriguez
- Defender: INF Jonathan Ornelas
Player of the month: OF Kellen Strahm
Kellen Strahm was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 5th round of the 2019 draft.
For Frisco he’s slashed a line of .261/.391/.350/.741 with 4 home runs and 17 RBI.
June was by far Strahm’s best month of the season so far. He slashed a line of .347/.434/.528/.962 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI. He also had a 12-game hit streak from June 4-June 21st.
Starting pitcher: RHP Owen White
In 24.1 innings spanning four starts, White had a 3-0 win-loss record with a 2.22 earned run average. Opposing batters slashed a line of .253/.290/.316/.606 against him.
Three of his four starts in June were with the High-A Hickory Crawdads, the other was with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders.
Going from High-A to Double-A is arguably the hardest jump to make in minor-league baseball. He’s made it look fairly easy and it’s definitely not.
White was also named Texas League Pitcher of the week for June 27-July 3rd.
Reliever: RHP Yerry Rodriguez
Yerry Rodriguez had a fantastic month of June pitching 11.2 innings with a 1.54 earned run average spanning across 9 appearances. Opposing batters struggled hitting a line of .125/.222/.250/.472 at the plate.
This is his first season working as a reliever full-time.
Defender: INF Jonathan Ornelas
Fielding-wise Ornelas has a fielding percentage of .971 at shortstop across 56 starts.
Ornelas has led the Frisco RoughRiders in batting average pretty much the entire season. He is 2nd in the Texas League in batting average (.325) and leads the Texas League in hits (102) at the time of this article.
