RoughRiders win 7-4 over Travelers and guarantee split series
The Frisco RoughRiders won 7-4 over the Arkansas Travelers last night. The win guarantees they at least split at series as they have won three out of the four games played so far.
They are now at a 35-32 record and on pace to finish the season at 72-66 which would be their best record since 2014 when they finished in 1st place with a 80-59 record.
Jack Leiter made his 13th appearance and 12th start of the season yesterday. He pitched 4 innings allowing two runs on two hits, five walks and four strikeouts. The two runs Leiter allowed were in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Over his last 3 starts, Leiter has pitched 9 innings and only has a 3.00 earned run average and opponents have a .182 batting average. The walk have still been an issue as he’s issued 9 walks and struckout 11.
The RoughRiders found the scoreboard in the top of the 2nd to tie the game with two runs of their own that came from a single by David Garcia and then a double by Josh Stowers.
In the top of the 3rd the RoughRiders put up four runs. David Garcia hit a 3-run triple and Josh Stowers hit an RBI-single to make it a 6-2 game at the time.
Josh Smith replaced Leiter in the the 5th.
The Travelers Jack Larsen hit a two-run home run to make it 6-4 game and since Smith (1-0, 4.50) pitched the 5th, he was credited with the win. It was his 1st on the season.
That was a little too close for comfort for Justin Foscue so he hit an RBI-double in the top of the 6th to make it 7-4 which ended up as the final score.
Tai Tiedemann (H,3, 5.85) replaced Josh Smith in the 6th and held the Travelers scoreless scoreless in his inning of work.
Shoutout to Tyler Thomas (H,3 ,7.27) who pitched two scoreless innings out of the pen. He walked one and struckout four.
Fernery Ozuna (2.45) earned his 7th save of the season after pitching a scoreless bottom of the 9th.
The RoughRiders 3-8 hitters each had two hits. That may be the 1st time this season that has happened but the offensive star of the game has to be David Garcia. He went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI. Josh Stowers would be a close 2nd, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a walk.
Pitcher of the game is Tyler Thomas with his two scoreless innings out of the pen.
