The Texas Rangers have nine players playing in the Arizona Fall League and three were named to the Fallstar game.
Right-handed pitcher Kumar Rocker, left-handes pitcher Grant Wolfram and shortstop Luisangel Acuña were all named to the Arizona Fall Star game that will take place on Sunday.
Kumar Rocker (1-1, 3.38)
RHP Kumar Rocker, 22, was selected to the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars roster but will not participate in Sunday’s contest. He is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA, .211 opp. batting average, and 13 SO over 5 starts/10.2 IP in the AFL this year.
His last start on October 31st was his best of the Fall League pitching 3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and 5 strikeouts. Most importantly, he issued no walks.
Grant Wolfram (1-0, 1.86)
Wolfram, 25, has gone 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA over 7 relief appearances for Surprise in the AFL this year, posting a 0.72 WHIP and .147 opponent batting average with 2 walks against 13 strikeouts. He’s been one of the more solid relief options for the Saguaros.
Luisangel Acuña (.247)
Acuña, 20, has batted .247 with 2 HR and 11 RBI over 20 games with the Surprise Saguaros, playing almost exclusively at shortstop. He has reached safely via hit or walk in 17 of his 20 games while going 7-for-9 in steal attempts.
Acuña’s glove work in the field has been excellent.
The Arizona Fall League Fall Star game is scheduled for Sunday at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.
Aaron Zavala injured
Some unfortunate news was reported today. Outfielder Aaron Zavala suffered from a turn UCL while participating in the Arizona Fall League.
According to Kennedi Landry, the Rangers beat reporter for MLB.com, Zavala had successful surgery performed by Dr. Keith Meister.
It was not a full reconstruction surgery. It is anticipated that he’ll return to the field by mid-May, early-June.
